FACTS
How
to Get to North Caicos
American
Airlines arrives on the island of Providenciales 2-3 times
daily throughout the year from Miami and on weekends from
Boston and New York. US Airways flys direct from Charlotte,
North Carolina, British Airways from London, Delta from
Atlanta, and Air Canada from Toronto. There are also direct
weekly charters from Toronto, Montreal, Boston and New
York. For a complete list click here.
Once
you arrive on Providenciales, you will be flown in a six-seater
airplane to North Caicos ($30/person each way). The flight
is a mere 12 minutes and offers a spectacular panoramic view
of our beautiful Islands. Upon arriving on North Caicos,
M&M, a local taxi driver, will escort you to the Ocean
Beach Hotel ($6/person) where Karen, the manager, will be
awaiting you with a glass of island rum punch.
North
Caicos Climate
Our
climate can best be described as an eternal summer with
almost continuous ocean breezes from the trade winds and
with constant sunshine, making the islands an ideal year-round
vacation destination. The temperature rarely drops below
25° C (77° F) or rises above 28° C (83° F)
average. The cool breezes make for comfortable sleeping
without air conditioning. North Caicos has a rainfall of
about 40 inches per year and the vegetation is more lush
compared to the neighboring islands. North Caicos is known
as the Garden Island.
ACTIVITIES
White
sand beaches, unpolluted and uncrowded waters offer a paradise
for swimming, snorkeling and beach combing.
Inside
the reef that surrounds our island you will find calm crystal
waters that abounds in marine life.
When
it comes to fishing, our islands are unsurpassed. Virtually
all water game species abound. There are bonefish by thousands,
snapper and grouper.
If
you are really lazy, you can just wade out and pluck your own
lobster or conch!
Scuba
diving, snokeling, fishing, private excursions and eco-tours
can be arranged through Beach Cruiser, the only dive/snorkel
operation on North Caicos.
Much
of the underwater world of North Caicos' north shore coast
remains unexplored.
There
are huge coral hills 30 to 40 feet high, separated by tiny
canyons and overgrown with soft corals, within one-half to
one mile offshore.
We
also have a fresh water pool surrounded by a wooden deck, a
very comfortable place for relaxation in the sun.
You
may enjoy a stroll along our tree shaded walkways where you
can learn about over 50 types of indigenous plants on a self
guided tour. Be sure to ask for the guide sheet on the botanical
descriptions.
Ruins
of old plantations; mysterious caverns where guano was mined
as fertilizer; rare tropical bird life and prehistoric iguanas
can be found in many of the sanctuaries and reserves.
There
are also a huge number of migrating whales approximately 2000
feet offshore in the month of March.
Flocks
of pink flamingos are often observed from our beach. There
is a constant presence of pelicans and ospreys. At times a
playful dolphin may join you in the calm surf.
A
short boat ride will take you to Fort George Cay where you
can observe submerged cannons over mounds of coral stone blocks.
This is also a fabulous location for finding sea shells.
You
can visit the Kew Farm, full of native exotic fruit trees or
take a stroll along the nature trail.
