FIELD TRIPS: "GEOLOGY OF BARBADOS"

The Edgewater Inn is offering one-day field trips December 28, 29th or 30th, 1997, conducted by Hans G. Machel, Professor of Geology at the University of Alberta. The trips explain in plain language the origin of the island of Barbados and its cliffs, plateaus, hilly jungles, gullies, caves, the various rock formations (sandstones, mud stones, chalks, coral rocks, terra rossa), oil pools, and groundwater.

Trip A (one day): for beginners.

Trip B (one day): for advanced hobby geologists.

Cost: US$65 per person (Edgewater Inn guests).
US$75 (non-Edgewater Inn guests).

An authentic Bajan Buffet picnic, dessert, beverages, and transportation by van to field locations is included.

Begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Edgewater Inn for juice and coffee. Return to Edgewater Inn at approximately 6:00 p.m. Guests of other hotels will be picked up at 7:30 A.M. and returned by 6:30 P.M.

There will be a lunch and rest stop with refreshments.

Bring sturdy walking or running shoes and sun protection. Several outcrops are on cliff faces and/or in the bright sun.
