LOCATION

Perched 50 feet above the turquoise. waters of the Caribbean, Beit Hawa or "House of Breezes" has a sweeping easterly view of Rendezvous Bay and Reef Bay beyond. It is located on the south side of the island, five minutes from the Cruz Bay ferry landing and ten minutes from the spectacular National Park beaches. One of the best snorkeling sites on St. John is around the rocky island and blow-hole below the villa. Tropical landscaping on attractive terraces, a splashing fountain in a two-tiered decorative pool, and the perpetually cooling breezes of the trade winds provide an idyllic, luxurious, and secluded vacation setting.

THE HOUSE

Beit Hawa is a unique 3 bedroom - 2 bath contemporary villa that sleeps six - two in a separate master bedroom suite, complete with scenic dressing room, bathroom, and outdoor shower garden; four in two attractive loft bedrooms with breathtaking views from all beds. The stone and silvery gray wood framed house features spectacular views with picture windows and sliding glass doors along the seaside living room and the dining area. The well-appointed kitchen also offers magnificent vistas, across the broad counter-bar to the sea, as well as through a window framed with exotic Mexican tiles onto your own fruit-laden lime tree, and on up to the terraces brimming with yellow allamanda and flaming bougainvilleas. Microwave, dishwasher, gas grill, and all necessary kitchen accessories are provided. The living and dining rooms are decorated with comfortable rattan furniture and warm earth colors in the upholstery and tile floors. The villa is equipped with two phones, TV, VCR, stereo tape recorder, stacks of mostly classical tapes, radios, telescope, and a large selection of games and puzzles.

As you pass through the handsomely carved wooden portals of Beit Hawa, the panorama of Rendezvous Bay and Ditlieff Point is dramatically framed by the splashing upper level fountain and a wide deck area. Refreshing drinks await you at the outdoor dining alcove adjacent to the fountain, and then you may descend three steps to sprawl in comfortable deck chairs or relax in the spacious tiled whirlpool spa. The villa's numerous activity areas, decks, balconies, tropical garden, and cliff trail down to the water provide ample space for relaxation either in a large group or in blissful solitude. Hummingbirds and banaquits dart from flower to flower within view of both the sundeck and the shaded areas under the wide overhang of the Bermuda roofs.

When you arrive, in addition to the fabulous view, you will be charmed by the extra flourishes at Beit Hawa - the bright hibiscus blooms placed here and there, the beds made up, extra linen and beach towels laid out, soft drinks and beer in the fridge, beach chairs and coolers within easy reach for your beach expeditions, shelves of books, guides, and maps of St. John, the Caribbean, and the world. The teak floored loft is reached by a spiral staircase. The blue-tiled loft bathroom contains two inner sliding doors for privacy between the bathtub/shower and the wash basin/vanity and the toilet. Although ceiling fans have been installed throughout the house, because of the steady trade winds, they are only occasionally needed in September, the hottest season of the year.

TRANSPORTATION

All international flights land in St. Thomas. St. John is reached by hourly ferry service from Redhook, a pleasant 20 minute ride, or by a 45 minute ferry ride from downtown Charlotte Amalie. A seaplane service also operates between St. Thomas and St. John.Beit Hawa's property manager will meet you at the ferry landing in Cruz Bay and escort you to the house. We recommend that you rent a jeep before arrival for the duration of your visit. If you send a deposit check for $50, our manager will reserve an appropriate vehicle for you. The daily rate is approximately $60.

ACTIVITIES

The toughest decision of the day is selecting which of the 20 pristine beaches you wish to enjoy. When you are not sprawling on the beach or relaxing at Beit Hawa, you may choose to visit the fascinating boutiques and arts & crafts studios in Cruz Bay, enjoy gourmet or native food at a variety of restaurants and delis, play tennis during the day or at night, explore the outlying cays by boat, or absorb the island history at the sugar mill ruins or at the library and museum. Intrepid hikers can follow the trails that meander through the 13,000 acres of St. John National Park (2/3 of the emerald isle). This Virgin is truly a gem. After an evening of calypso in town, we recommend star gazing from Beit Hawa's deck with the help of our-telesco"&-starmanu-als. No need to count sheep while staying in this idyllic home. The sound of waves lapping on the rocks below your balcony will soon transport you into a happy dream world..

Don't forget to bring you own snorkel gear. Scuba equipment and tours are available in Cruz Bay.
